Q. What is Streetview?
It’s a way to view street-level photographs that Google took with a car-mounted camera while driving all over the region.
Q. How do you use it?
1. Go to Google Maps and click on the Streetview button at the top of the map. It’s right next to the traffic button and the buttons that toggle between the map view, the aerial view, and the terrain view.
2. Click on any street outlined in blue to pull up a streetview window. The streetview window can be rotated and zoomed to get close ups.
Q. How is this useful?
I use it every day at work to look at traffic signs without actually having to go out to the site. So it saves me a lot of field work. I’m not sure how non-transportation engineers use it. I guess it could help with real estate searches or giving a friend directions. Mostly, it’s just fun to check out your favorite spots.
Q. How does Google make money from this?
I have no idea.
