Columbus would spend more than $1 million this spring to install sidewalks around five city schools under legislation sent to City Council yesterday by Mayor Michael B. Coleman.
Elementary and middle schools on the East and Far East sides and in North Linden and the Hilltop are the latest targets in a city effort that has poured 15 miles of sidewalks around 31 schools since 2000.
Council members are expected to vote on the plan Feb. 25. Coleman spokesman Mike Brown said the list released yesterday could be expanded by year’s end.
Construction would begin in the spring and probably be completed by fall around Leawood Elementary on the East Side, North Linden Elementary and Clinton Middle schools in North Linden, Hilltonia Middle School on the Hilltop, and Yorktown Elementary on the Far East Side.
