What is Mapnificent? It’s a a website that uses a Google map to show you how far you can travel by transit and walking combined in an amount of time. It’s like my 30-minute map, except you can choose any origin (I only did it from High & Broad) and the maximum amount of time you want to travel (I only did it for 30 minutes).
There are a couple of minor issues. First, it doesn’t offer a way to choose the time of day you’re traveling, so you may not actually be able to do what it says if you’re traveling in off-peak periods. Second, the walking radii are based on simple circles, not the actual street network. So your access may be limited in some locations. Nevertheless, this is very cool. Thanks for this post.
I’ve always said that if I could get anywhere worth going in a reasonable amount of time, I’d take the bus. I live on the #8 line, so when I discovered I could get to the Short North and downtown in less than half an hour I decided to make good on that promise to myself.
I’m happy to report that it only added about 15 minutes to my trip to get to the North Market on Saturday and I didn’t have to deal with giant headache that is the North Market parking lot.
This will undoubtedly make Comfest and a lot of other Short North/downtown events a lot more fun.
