With the need for new construction jobs, relief from high gas prices, and the desire for a change from the status quo, it feels like the time might finally be right for the Ohio Hub Plan. It’s made it past the first big hurdle — winning over the state’s most important decision maker…

We will strengthen Ohio with innovative transportation projects. We will work toward the restoration of passenger rail service between Cincinnati, Columbus, and Cleveland. Our goal is to link Ohio’s three largest cities by passenger rail for the first time in 40 years. This will be a first step toward a rail system that links neighborhoods within a city, and cities within our state.

I’ll be shure to take the train, Ted, but what about competing for all those jobs we are loosing, today? It’s a well known fact that when companies look to expand or relocate into new areas, one of the greatest considerations is the desireability of available public transportation. Your proposals on education are noteworthy and when implemented will produce a well qualified and productive workforce in twenty years. Later, Governor.
I think we have to cut our losses somewhere along the line. With the current down turn nationwide, there is not going to be much in the way of major business moves. What little there is will probably stick to the local areas, like Battele.
We need to stop shooting ourselves in the foot and plan how to get ourselves out of the next recession 30 some odd years down the line. Improving transit to give us more options to access jobs and education and improving our education to create a higher quality of life and greater opportunity over the next few decades will go a long way to making Columbus even more recession proof.
Panel discussion group on ‘Columbus on Record’ ,WOSE-TV, 2/1/09 says ‘the train won’t leave the station’ cause the money’s not there. What’s their track record on funding issues?
Yet we can find the money to fix 4 miles of highway…
That’s B.S. Before I go diggin’ into it, is anybody familiar with legislative memberships on transportation committees and meeting schedules? Rail at least deserves whatever monies Govenor Ted wants to throw at the (are you serious) “Motion Picture Industry???”! I can do a pretty serious Archie Bunker! After rewatching the State of the State speech, Govenor Ted appears to be delivering a commencement address at a teachers college. “Somewhere Over The Rainbow…We Are… Smart As A Goose.”! But seriously folks, don’t wait to see how much money gets allocated to entice movie segments be circused in Ohio (Oh my! What fun!…I was there!) These teeter-bobs are wasting YOUR INHERITANCE (as in property values). When jobs are leaving the state, confront the issue! When legislators arrive downtown greet them as Minnie Mouse or Family Guy. I’ll bet some theater majors (bar keeps) and rail enthusiasists (retirees) still have it in ‘em! But please, if nothing else, just get off your remotes today. O.K?
